Sri Lankan cooking, South Asian cooking generally, is straight forward. For the most part it remains firmly rooted in dishes that in other places might be called ‘peasant’ , or ‘home style’  or ‘traditional’ or whatever other term is being used as shorthand to mean not haute, or even semi or faux haute cuisine.
